As we left the Maritime Provinces we again had to choose
our destinations in the remaining time available for this trip. Quebec
City was our only stop in Quebec. There is much more to see another time.
We selected an RV park which offered city tours with
transportation from the park. Park staff drove us to the ferry which crosses the St. Lawrence River
to Quebec City. We boarded a hop on/hop off bus with a tour guide who was
completely fluent in French and English so all the points of interest were well
described.
Viewed from the St. Lawrence River, Chateau Frontenac immediately
attracts your attention.
The streets of Old Quebec invite pedestrians to experience
the European charm of the first French settlement in North America.
The tour winds through old gates and alongside old
walls.
Old buildings with modern businesses keep the area vibrant.
Stately homes radiate Old World charm.
Old world scenes soften modern overpass supports.
Cathedrals reach for the sky.
Old world scenes are also depicted on modern buildings.
The Plains of Abraham are now a modern park.
The old and the new can be seen everywhere.
We finished our tour at the top of the Funiculaire. A great
view as we returned to the ferry.
So beautiful. We were there, once, a long time ago, when we were in the military. Just loved it.
