#126 Aug 2015 Across the Prairies

Our first stop in Canada was in Boissevain Manitoba where we spotted a very large Tommy the Turtle.  There are normal sized spotted turtles in the area but we didn’t see one.

Our primary destination was near Chelan, Saskatchewan.

Every three years Ralph’s mother’s family has a reunion on the homestead, which has grown into a lovely green oasis.

The reunions started in the 1980s and have helped maintain family connection over the years. There were about 80 attendees visiting, playing games, eating and reminiscing.

Sunday worship is a highlight of the weekend.

The church is only used for special occasions but is well maintained.

A beautiful full moon glowed over our family and the prairie.

After the weekend we had short but intense visits with more family and friends.

We did more reminiscing in Wainwright Alberta, my hometown. Apparently this buffalo was a party point after our wedding in 1972.

My Dad was postmaster until he passed away in 1971.

The memorial clock anchors downtown.

Washburn Laird, my stepfather, was a high school history teacher. He loved to read and collected hundreds of history books. After he passed away we donated his books to the local library.

West of Wainwright the railway trestle has always fascinated our family. We often explored around it and sometimes on it. There is a great, safe viewpoint now but there are stories of train encounters.

In Camrose, Edmonton and Calgary we visited with family and friends. Special times.

Friends who are family and family who are friends. We share many memories and look forward to many more.

  1. I lived in Manitoba for 50 years and never did see the Boissevain turtle. I did take my husband to see the Komarno Mosquito. Next summer, I plan to revisit the Gimili goose. These are fun memories, all of them reasons to visit these towns.
