#180 June 19, 2018 History Repeats Itself!

Kari and Dan are engaged! Wow! Our whole family is very, very happy for them!!!

Dan did an amazing amount of planning for this event. He asked Kari to book off the week starting June 16th but wouldn’t tell her where they were going. Finally the day they were packing he admitted their destination would be Jasper – one of Kari’s favourite places.

Dan had booked a tour of the Columbia Icefields for June 19th. The weather was a perfect blue sky day. When they were walking on the Icefield Dan knelt down to fill a water bottle with clear glacier water. When he turned around on one knee he had an engagement ring in his hand and asked Kari to marry him. She was speechless with surprise but managed to say YES!!

Word spread quickly among the other passengers on the tour and the whole snow coach cheered. The next day while waiting to go on the Jasper Sky Tram a family approached Kari and Dan to admire Kari’s ring. They had been on the same Icefields tour.

Jenn and Adam coincidentally were in Jasper at the same time and were very happy to share the celebration.

Now for the history.

Ralph and I met at the Columbia Icefields in 1969. We both worked there a few summers from then until 1976 when I was pregnant with Kari. My sister and some of Ralph’s family also worked at the Icefields. It has been a family affair and now it continues.

Congratulations Kari and Dan!!
