#169 Oct-Nov 2017 Back to Canada

From Las Vegas it was time to head towards Canada.

Going north from Vegas the mountains change many times and are endlessly fascinating.

In Montana we started to see signs of winter.

In Butte Montana Our Lady of the Rockies watches over the view from the Continental Divide. It is a 90 foot interdenominational statue built in the likeness of Mary, Mother of Jesus.

We stopped for lunch in Basin Montana. It is almost a ghost town but has a small family run café with good food.

The locals were friendly and curious about strangers just driving in off the highway  for lunch.

A winter sunset lasted for miles.

We arrived in Calgary late for Danica’s 11thbirthday and early for Halloween.

It’s not often we see an elephant riding a horse!

We spent a few days with family in Camrose AB, Edam SK and Edmonton then headed towards home.

The Rockies were in full winter splendor.

Mt Robson was only hiding its mid section.

Going over the Coquihalla in November, I vowed to never drive the mountains in winter again.

We had a great trip with lots of sightseeing and visiting  and then happy to return to our own bed.
