#172 Jan 2018 Vancouver Chinese Lantern Festival

The PNE grounds in Vancouver were transformed into the Chinese Lantern Festival. There were 35 illuminated displays with over 1,300 individual lanterns. What a sight!

The entrance was breathtaking.

A 200-foot dragon dominated the grounds.

To give perspective, notice the silhouettes of people in front of the dragon.

Kylin is a traditional beast with a calm temperament in ancient Chinese tales. The legend of the Han people said that the beast has a life span of two thousand years.

Each Kylin is created from 6,000 glass bottles of coloured water.

The swan is often considered a symbol of purity, loyalty and nobility.

The porcelain pagoda took more than 1,700 person-hours over 35 days for 5 artisans to create this incredible display.

It is created from nearly 100,000 dishes, including 40,000 plates and 30,000 spoons.

The butterflies, flowers and clouds in this lantern group form a beautiful picture, revealing happy and warm feelings.

The peony flower is a symbol of prosperity and happiness in Chinese traditional culture.

Holding a green olive branch, a dove can give a person the feeling of happiness.

The sea is mysterious and home to many peculiar creatures.

The acrobats bent and balanced in places we didn’t know could be manipulated.

Notice the five candelabra balanced on her hands, feet and head.

The Chinese Lantern Festival was magical and awe inspiring.
